3. CMS 2

This assignment consisted of us learning about 2 (new) CMS tools. For this assignment I will evaluate both Wix & Wordpress, since I used both of these website-creating tools before I thought these would be the most 'easy' to evaluate.

This assignment is built on different criteria which will be analysed. These criteria are:

  • The functionality of both tools
  • the support for different business models
  • the available business process modelling tools
  • its performance and stability
  • the connectivity to existing business systems

Following is my report on these criteria for both CMS tools:

WIX

  • Functionality:
  • [1]Wix is a website creation tool which allows its users to create their own website very easily. You can choose between 500 templates or start something new, entirely of your own. I found that it is a very easy tool to use because there is a question mark you can click which shows you information about what you are doing. Wix is now also available on your phone browser, which allows people to look at a wix website on their phone. You an also create your own Webshop through a wix website which allows you to sell your own stuff.
  • Support of different business models:
  • [2]Wix offers the possibility of Freemium. You get the basic stuff for free but you will have to pay money for extra features and support. There is also a Wix application available for your phone which allows the use of in-app purchases.
  • Available business process modelling tools:
  • When creating a website you can choose from over 500 different templates or you can start your own website from scratch. You can however, still change your chosen template at any time. This can be done through the 'template' option. Wix, also, offers the ability to make your website through their AI. You only have to give up some information and the website is built by their AI. Afterwards you can then change your website to your own liking.
  • Performance and stability:
  • In my opinion, the wix website operates very good. It's a very easy to use tool. I sometimes have some problem finding things I want to add/change but via the help menu I can always look these things up.
  • Connectivity to existing business systems:
  • [3]As I said before, wix is also available as an application on your phone/tablet. You can easily change your website on the go. Wix also offers a lot of little applications which you can add to your site to make it better. You can, for example, get a site booster which makes your site more popular & easier to find. You can also add an event calendar which shows your events. Wix also offers a visitor number viewer which tells you how many visitors you site has had. As you can see in the screenshot below, there are a lot more options available.
  • Price:
  • Below you can find the different premium options you can take with wix:

WORDPRESS:

  • Functionality:
  • [4]Similar to Wix, Wordpress is also a website creation tool. In my opinion, Wordpress is more used for blogs whereas Wix is more used for websites and web shops. But both are very similar in style. Wordpress is a very 'boring' site to look at, when you want to create a website you first need to answer a couple of questions & provide your own information. After this you can start creating your own website, blog...
  • Support of different business models:
  • [5]Wordpress is an open-source software. Everyone can see the code & contribute to the software to make it better. Wordpress is basically built by thousands of people online. Wordpress receives most of its money through donations because it is a non-profit organization.
  • Available business process modelling tools:
  • [6]Wordpress is advertised as very easy and simple to use. You can create & post your pages very easy. And change them immediately. You can either choose from their range of over 1000 themes or upload your own theme.
  • Performance and stability:
  • The Wordpress interface is a bit hard and uneasy to use, in my opinion. It takes some time to get used to because everything is not that easy to find. But once you know where everything is it's a very simple tool to use.
  • Connectivity to existing business systems:
  • [7] Wordpress is also available as an online app for your smartphone. You can easily see your own website as well as other websites which you follow. You can see you own insights; views, likes & comments. But also you visitors and such. You can create/change your own website and blog through this application.
  • Price:
  • Below you can find the different pricing options for Wordpress:

[8]Report about both tools:

  • As you can see, Wix is way easier to use but also a bit pricier than Wordpress.

Conclusion:

Because I had used both of these two tools before I thought it would be a good idea to dive deeper into their usability. I learned that Wix is the better website & has a lot more stuff to offer than you would think at first.

Wix is also the easiest option for making an online website, with their AI function you can easily create your own website in a matter of minutes. You can easily change the website afterwards with one of their 500 templates. I really, really like this AI function because it allows you to make a website without even doing anything, the only thing you have to do is provide them with some information & your website will be made in a matter of minutes.

I will definitely subscribe to the Wix email list to see what else they have in store for the future. I might even begin writing some blogs about my findings as a student... Just a thought though.
